Buckwheat

Buckwheat (Fagopyrum) is a genus of bitter plants (Polygonaceae), which includes annual herbs. The stem is erect, juicy. The leaves are heart-shaped, shiny. The flowers are gathered in bunches grown in the axils of the upper leaves. Fruits three-sided nuts.
It is a temperate plant that is pollinated by insects. Buckwheat comes from Southern Siberia. Wild buckwheat grows in Kazakhstan, China. Cultivation started in the Middle Ages and eventually became established in agriculture.
