Dotnuva seeds
The Dotnuva Baltic seed factory, which started operating in 2003, has a capacity of 30,000 tonnes of seeds per year, under the Dotnuva Seeds brand.
We represent and distribute seeds of cereals, rape, corn, fodder and lawn grasses, bean and sideral plants from LAMMC Institute of Agriculture and the most famous international seed companies. We cooperate with DLF Seeds & Science, Saaten Union, DSV, Lantmännen, Syngenta seeds, RAGT, Rapool, Bayer CropScience, Basf, KWS, Saatbau Linz, HR Smolice, etc.
Seeds are marketed by AB Linas Agro, the main seed markets are Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. In addition to these countries, seeds are also sold in other EU countries. Another part of the activity is propagation of seeds for other seed companies in the EU. We propagate seeds for perennial grasses, mustard, fodder radishes and other seeds.
Seed quality is ensured
Every year, we invest and strengthen our seed preparation capacity. In 2019, we upgraded the line for the preparation of herbal mixtures, which has improved the quality of our mixes. In 2020, we installed a modern spectral cleaner with chambers that differentiate seeds of similar size and weight by colour for maximum cleanliness.
The equipment and process control system installed in the factory ensure high seed quality. Each batch of seeds passes through a rigorous three-level control in the factory‘s laboratory. Prepared seeds are evaluated by specialists of the State Plant Service under the Ministry of Agriculture. Only seeds that meet the mandatory quality requirements are certified.
Continuous investment in production
Our current focus is on streamlining the logistics chain – from production to delivery to the customer. In 2021, a new seed warehouse was put into operation, increasing the storage areas in Dotnuva by 89%. The new warehouse, which has an area of 3,500 square metres, can store 2,100 tonnes of seeds at a time. The majority of the seed range at Dotnuva Seeds will be concentrated in one place in Dotnuva.
Currently, the seed factory in Dotnuva produces around 27,000 tonnes of seed per year, which is around 90% of our total capacity, and we need to increase our production capacity to ensure a smooth supply of certified seeds to our customers.
For this reason, a new seed preparation factory is being built in Iecava, Latvia, which will not only meet the demand for certified seeds in the Latvian and Estonian markets, but will also allow us to reach Latvian farmers more quickly and guarantee more efficient logistics of goods to Estonia.
The capacity of the factory will be 20,000 t of seed per year, with the possibility to increase it to 30,000 t. The factory will be used for the preparation of seeds of bell and legume crops. The estimated storage area is 3,000 sq. m. The seed preparation factory should be operational between 2025 and 2026.
